The Vincent Chin Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship awards $1,500 to a student journalist for an insightful essay related to Vincent Chin’s life, death and legacy. This scholarship honors the legacy of Chin thanks to the generosity of Joe Grimm, former newsroom recruiter and staff development editor for the Detroit Free Press.

The Sam Chu Lin Internship Grant

This AAJA broadcast news internship grant supports AAPIs pursuing journalism careers in broadcasting, an industry where AAPIs continue to be underrepresented. The Sam Chu Lin Grant, for a student broadcaster, offers $500.

The Dinah Eng Leadership Fellowship

This fellowship widens opportunities for mid-career AAJA members pursuing the strategies and skills needed to enter news management and advance within its ranks. Fellows receive up to $1,000 for any leadership or management development program, in and outside of AAJA. Please apply at least three weeks before expenses are due.

The Jimmie & Suey Fong Yee Grants

The AAJA Sports Task Force awards two $2,000 grants to students or recent graduates who are pursuing careers in sports journalism. The scholarship is intended to financially support the recieipients’ registration, travel and lodging costs for AAJA’s 2025 National Convention in Seattle, Washington. The scholarships are made possible thanks to a donation made by Don Yee.

The Stanford Chen Internship Grants

This internship grant awards two $1,500 to college juniors, seniors, and graduate students who have secured an internship at a news outlet, to offset living expenses and costs. It honors the memory of Stanford Chen, who helped found the AAJA Portland chapter. We encourage students from the Pacific Northwest or who attend a Northwest college to apply.
