Troy University has significantly expanded its Military and Family Scholarship program, now making advanced education more accessible to military personnel and their families by including Ph.D. programs and academic certificates in the scholarship coverage.
The expanded scholarship program offers substantial financial relief for military students pursuing higher education. Under the updated terms, currently serving military personnel, their spouses, and dependents can now apply the Military and Family Scholarship toward:
“This expansion reflects our unwavering commitment to those who serve,” said Scot Brumbeloe, Director of Military and Veterans Affairs for Troy University.
The scholarship provides meaningful financial support by reducing tuition costs to $250 per credit hour for covered academic programs. This represents a substantial savings compared to standard tuition rates, making advanced education more attainable for military families who often face unique financial challenges due to frequent relocations and deployment schedules.
“Education should never be out of reach for those who sacrifice so much,” Brumbeloe added. “We’re proud to offer a tuition rate that aligns with military tuition assistance limits, helping families budget and plan without added stress.”
The Military and Family Scholarship is available to:
This inclusive approach recognizes that military service affects entire families and acknowledges the sacrifices made by spouses and children who support their military family members.
“When one person serves, the whole family serves,” said Brumbeloe. “It’s important that we support the entire family unit—not just the service member—through accessible and flexible educational options.”
While the expansion represents a significant benefit enhancement, there are specific restrictions that eligible students should understand:
The Military and Family Scholarship cannot be combined with other Troy University scholarships or tuition assistance programs.
The scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with most VA benefits, with the exception of VA benefits under chapters 1606 and 1607.
This means students will need to evaluate their various benefit options to determine the most advantageous financial aid package for their specific situation.
Military families interested in pursuing advanced education at Troy University should contact the university’s military education office to discuss their specific educational goals and benefit eligibility. Given the complexity of various military education benefits, personalized guidance can help ensure students maximize their available resources while pursuing their academic objectives.
“Our team is here to walk students through every step,” Brumbeloe emphasized. “From benefit eligibility to program selection, we want every military family to feel supported and empowered.”
This scholarship expansion represents Troy University’s recognition of the valuable contributions military families make to both their communities and the nation, providing them with enhanced educational opportunities that can benefit their long-term career success and personal development.
