TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Tucson Unified School District announced that four University High School students have been awarded the College-sponsored Merit Scholarship by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This prestigious recognition highlights their exceptional academic abilities and potential for success in college.
The students, Roy Samuel Cormode, Debangshu Pramanik, Abigail Stadheim, and Crisanna Terrell, were chosen from a pool of more than 6,930 finalists. They will receive annual scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Roy Samuel Cormode received the National Merit University of Arizona Scholarship and plans to pursue a career in computer science. Debangshu Pramanik and Crisanna Terrell both received scholarships from the University of Texas at Dallas, planning careers in computer science and mechanical engineering (robotics), respectively. Abigail Stadheim was awarded the National Merit University of Oregon Scholarship with a focus on urban/city planning.
These students entered the National Merit Scholarship Program in 2023 by taking the PSAT/NMSQT. To become finalists, they fulfilled multiple requirements, including a scholarship application with essay, extracurricular involvement, and outstanding academic records.
