MILL CREEK — The Tygarts Valley High School Alumni Association is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024-25 alumni scholarship.
Congratulations to Janie Blackwood and Emily Tallman. Each recipient will receive a one-time $500.00 scholarship made possible by the generous donations from TVHS alumni.
Janie is the daughter of James and Christiane Blackwood of Huttonsville. She plans to study at Marietta College and pursue a degree to become a physician’s assistant. She has maintained a 3.6 GPA, and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Throughout high school, Janie has volunteered with the Tygarts Valley Lions Club and the Celtic Festival to raise money for the TVHS athletic programs. In addition, she has been a four-year member and starter of the softball team, captain of the cheerleading team and a member of the competition cheerleading team.
Emily is the daughter of Rob and April Tallman of Huttonsville. She plans to attend West Virginia University and pursue a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Management. She will graduate with a 4.3 GPA, and she is in the National Honor Society.
Throughout high school she has been an active member of Future Farmers of America, West Virginia 4-H, the volleyball team, and she was a summer employee of the West Virginia State Parks System and DNR. In addition, she was active with her church youth group, VFW and American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as president of the West Virginia chapter.
