TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Signing a college scholarship is a big deal, as not every high school athlete has the chance to do so. Throw in signing on the same day with your best friend, and the odds go down even further.
That’s what happened at North Florida Christian Thursday, as softball teammates Gabby Hughes and Hayden Stone both signed to play at the next level.
Hughes, a pitcher, is headed to Truett McConnell, a NAIA program, while Stone, who plays outfield, will suit up for East Georgia State College. Both said they were happy for each other and excited for the future.
“I think it was really big having my family here and to be around all my friends,” said Hughes. “I just know God wanted us to both do this. It was a really big important part of our lives.”
“She’s my best friend so I’m glad it was her out of everyone,” added Stone. “It feels amazing. I just feel very blessed to have this opportunity to play softball at the next level.”
