TOWNSEND — Two North Middlesex Regional High School students have been recognized for excellence and have received scholarships from the Chamber Foundation of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce.
Carolyn Brodeur and Allyson Amari were recognized during the Annual Scholar’s Breakfast organized by the Chamber and held on May 10 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Fitchburg.
Twenty-three Central Massachusetts seniors received scholarships of up to $2,000.
“We are incredibly proud of Carolyn and Allyson,” Superintendent Brad Morgan said. “Jostling for scholarships has become more competitive recently, and it speaks volumes of their character for securing these awards.”
Chamber Foundation scholarships are awarded based on a number of criteria, including excellence in sports, academia, employment, and volunteer work.
Brodeur is passionate about sports and mental health. She plays varsity softball for North Middlesex and intends to play at Fitchburg State University. The senior also volunteers at Let Us Know, a program focused on improving mental health among young people in the region.
“Having known Carolyn for four years, I can confidently say that she has a lot of grit, resilience, and determination,” North Middlesex Regional High School Principal Timothy McMahon said. “These qualities are born by her effort to both support others and prepare herself for the future.”
Amari is passionate about civics and citizenship. She works as a waitress at 873 Cafe and Tavern and interns for state Rep. Margaret Scarsdale. She is chapter president of the National Honor Society, and is active in clubs relating to art, books, and gardening.
“A career in public life is challenging, but having seen Allyson juggle competing demands including playing the piano, also playing softball at North Middlesex, and even acting as defense attorney during the Teen FBI Academy, I’m confident that she will rise to the challenge,” Principal McMahon said.
To date, the Chamber Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships to more than 680 students in the region.
