HONOLULU (Island News) — The Taco Bell Foundation just awarded two local high school student employees with $25,000 scholarships for higher education.
In the Live Más Scholarship program’s 10th year, the Taco Bell Foundation shattered their own record by awarding $14 million total to student employees across the country.
One local winner Kingsten Cambra, said he plans to use his scholarship to attend university. Right now, he’s deciding between the University of Southern California or Santa Clara University. He plans to major in economics with a focus on pre-law.
A Waipahu High School student, Kayelyn Pascua, also earned the scholarship through the Live Más Scholarship program. She said she plans to study accounting at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and she’s inspired by her mother’s tax work.
These awards are not based on GPA or test scores; rather, the Taco Bell Foundation bases their choices off the students’ passion and how the money would impact their lives and educational journey. Applicants submit a two-minute video describing their goals and how they want to make a difference. Winners don’t just earn $25,000 scholarships, they also gain access to mentorships, internships and networking opportunities.
This program is funded through fan donations via the Round Up program and contributions from Taco Bell Corporation, as well as franchisees like RBD Hawaii Restaurants Limited.
