The University of the Aftermarket Foundation (UAF) has created a scholarship available to 10 students a year in memory of Larry and Sandra Prince, the late chairman and CEO of Genuine Parts Company, and his wife.
The scholarships will be awarded to aspiring students pursuing an automotive career at a two- or four-year college or in an accredited automotive, collision, or heavy-duty/diesel post-secondary program.
By completing a single application on the AutomotiveScholarships.com website, applicants will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. The site allows students to view the details of all scholarships available and continue to update their applications until the March 31 deadline.
Larry Prince had a passion and affinity for the automotive aftermarket, beginning his 47-year career with Genuine Parts Company when he was hired for a summer job in June 1958, according to a UAF press release.
As his career progressed, Prince became involved in all aspects of the company. In 1959, he married Sandra who was by his side as he took on roles of increasing responsibility, including a 15-year stint as chairman and CEO before his retirement in 2005.
UAF has also welcomed the Prince Family Foundation to its Board of Trustees as a lifetime trustee. Larry Prince Jr. will represent the foundation on the board.
“My parents were firm believers in the importance of education and learning as a way to open doors to opportunities and expand one’s horizons,” said Prince Jr., in the release. “Our family is very pleased to support the University of the Aftermarket Foundation and award scholarships in their memory. My parents would be proud to know that we are helping students pursue careers in the industry that they loved and was so good to our family.”
The ASE Education Foundation is also accepting applications for two Michael Busch Memorial Scholarships administered through UAF. The deadline to apply is March 31.
Eligibility criteria include:
The scholarships were created in memory of the son of ASE board member Jim Busch. Busch owned a shop in Issaquah, Washington. His son, an automotive technology student, lost his battle with cancer.

A third industry scholarship is up for grabs until March 31, offered by the ASE Education Foundation.
The ASE Chairman’s Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors, high school graduates, and students who earned a GED certificate. In addition, applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll as full-time students at a two- or four-year accredited college or university or an ASE-accredited post-secondary automotive technician training program.
The scholarship recognizes the strong technical skills and foundational knowledge required to support the industry as an entry-level technician, according to an ASE press release. The ASE chairman is a voluntary leadership position, and the scholarship honors the role’s dedication to advancing all service professionals.
