UAPB Commissioned Officers Association Awards Scholarships to ROTC Cadets During UAPB Homecoming 2025 – UAPB News

Each year during the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Homecoming week, the campus is graced by the return of UAPB Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Alumni. These honorable individuals not only mentor current program Cadets but also play a crucial role in selecting UAPB Commissioned Officers Association (COA) scholarship recipients, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to the ROTC program.
Three University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) ROTC cadets were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the UAPB Commissioned Officers Association during the COA Scholarship Board meeting held at the Dawson-Hicks building this October. Cadet Scholarship recipients for Homecoming 2025 were UAPB Sophomore Jaylon Flowers of Little Rock, AR, a health and kinesiology major; UAPB Freshman Rhyan Cain of Kansas City, MO, a biology major, and UAPB Freshman Clayton Shuanthony Jr, of Little Rock, AR, a nursing and military science major.
The UAPB COA Scholarship Board is composed of dedicated members who play a significant role in the program’s success. These members include MAJ (ret) Charles Griffith ’83, CPT (ret) Sharon Alexander, ’83 CPT (ret) Ed Shumpert ’70, COL (ret) Karen Chipchase ’85, and LTC (ret) Curtis Lindesay ’89. They are committed to the advancement of the ROTC program.
LTC Lindesey shared that the awards target ROTC program Freshmen and Sophomores to help ease the financial barriers for students. The scholarship award reinforces the strong bond between UAPB, its COA Alumni, and the ROTC program that has helped advance the careers of nearly 700 cadet graduates since the ROTC program began in 1968.
