UNC Asheville announced Wednesday it received a $1 million donation from an anonymous alumnus to support its Centennial Campaign, which aims to raise $100 million as the university approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027.
This contribution is one of the largest financial gifts made by a UNC Asheville graduate.

The funds will go toward establishing the Woodward Scholars Program, which aims to provide scholarships and academic opportunities for students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
According to UNCA, this program will offer $10,000 annual scholarships and an additional $10,000 per student for experiences such as undergraduate research, internships and study abroad trips.
