The estate of a pair of University of Evansville alums has donated more than $57,000 to create a new scholarship for business students at the college.
The Miriam G. ’45 and Melvin R. ’48 Kahl Endowed Educational Scholarship Fund will be awarded to students majoring in programs within the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration, the university said in a news release. Programs include economics, logistics and supply chain management, global business and finance.
Melvin Kahl enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific during World War II before earning a mechanical engineering degree at what was then Evansville College, according to his obituary. He later worked for decades at General Electric in Louisville.
While at the college he met Miriam. The two would marry in 1951. Melvin died in November at age 98. Miriam died in 2018 at age 94.
The University of Evansville, a private university affiliated with The United Methodist Church, offers more than 75 undergraduate programs and 11 graduate programs.
