POLK COUNTY, Minn. — The University of Minnesota Crookston will be holding its first Regal’s Run 5K run/walk Saturday, April 26, to raise funds for the Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship was created to honor the lives of 9-year-old Camden Dean and 1-year-old Maxwell Dean. Sons of UMC alumni Trista Curry and Bryan Dean, the two boys were killed in a March 25, 2018, car crash while traveling with their mother and sister, Avalon Dean.

“Camden was known for his kind heart and passion for helping others, while Maxwell brought joy with his playful spirit,” according to a statement written by the university’s MGMT 4200 Project Management class, the organizers of the event.
The #CamdentotheMax Foundation was established to promote kindness and pay-it-forward initiatives, and the memorial scholarship was created to support UMC students, ensuring a continuation of the boys’ legacy of generosity, the statement said.
“Their story is a powerful reminder of the impact of love and kindness,” the statement said.
Rain or shine, the 5K will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 26, followed by a Children’s Fun Run, according to a press release issued by the Project Management class.
Registration is available online, and will remain open until Saturday, April 19. It costs less than $35 to register for the 5K, and a little under $13 to register for the Children’s Fun Run.
All event proceeds will go directly to the Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship endowment, the release said.
UMC students have been raising money for the scholarship already, and it now has less than $5,000 to go before completing its $25,000 endowment.

“We hope you will help secure this endowment, give students an awesome hands-on learning experience and support a worthwhile cause,” the release said.
Tax-deductible donations can be made directly to the scholarship online.
The Project Management students who are organizing this event are soliciting donations and sponsorships, as well as “race-day swag” for the participants, the release said. Anyone interested in getting involved can reach out to Megan Peterson at hulst006@umn.edu .
Event sponsors will be recognized through different types of advertising based on their donation level, including event signage, ads on the Community Voice app and on the official event website.
