In rural Indiana, education is more than a pathway to personal success—it’s the foundation of vibrant communities. The Community Foundation of White County (CFWC) plays a crucial role in helping students access the resources they need to pursue higher education, technical training, and careers across diverse fields. Through a wide array of scholarships, the foundation and its donors work together to transform futures and nurture lifelong learning.
Every scholarship offered by CFWC represents the generosity and vision of individuals who believe in the power of education to change lives.
Many scholarships memorialize loved ones, transforming personal loss into opportunities for the next generation.
The Mya & Stephanie Thompson Memorial Scholarships, for example, were created to memorialize two beloved members of our community, with their legacies supporting students who are involved in swimming and volleyball.
The Tyra Wright Klink & Angela Wright Elder Memorial Scholarship focuses on students pursuing degrees in healthcare, while the Valerie James “Don’t Quit” Memorial Scholarship celebrates resilience and commitment in students who have participated in 4-H.
These funds reflect a shared belief in lifelong learning—an essential quality for students to adapt, grow, and thrive in an ever-changing world.
CFWC’s scholarships are designed to meet the needs of students pursuing a wide variety of goals.
Whether aspiring to become a musician, entrepreneur, or tradesperson, students can find support tailored to their dreams.
– The Harry & E. Jean Voorhis Memorial Scholarship supports students looking to earn a degree in home economics, teaching, music, or business.
– Scholarships such as the Irons Memorial Scholarship and the Francis and Beulah Altman Scholarship are aimed at students passionate about education.
– Scholarships such as the John & Ida Bartoo Scholarship and the Robert & Joan Sanbloom Scholarship fund students entering agriculture, a critical sector for Indiana’s rural economy.
Technical education is also highly valued, with funds like the Louis F. Blum Memorial Scholarship that support students pursuing a welding degree from Ivy Tech.
Higher education extends beyond traditional four-year degrees, opening doors to vital careers in skilled trades and technical fields.
Students from Twin Lakes, Frontier, North White, Tri-County, and Delphi high schools are encouraged to apply for these transformative scholarships.
The process is straightforward, with a common application for each school. Criteria vary but often include academic performance, extracurricular involvement, financial need, or specific career aspirations. Personal essays and recommendation letters are typically required.
The scholarships listed above are only a portion of available opportunities for graduating seniors.
Visit the Community Foundation of White County’s website to learn more about all available scholarships, application guidelines, and how to establish or contribute to a fund.
Education builds futures, and with the support of our community, those futures shine even brighter.
Together, these efforts ensure that education remains a powerful force for personal and community transformation.
