AIKEN — USC Aiken students who plan to major in accounting or finance may find themselves eligible to receive extra monetary support thanks to an endowed scholarship being established by two university alumni.
Jason Crane and Gerry Owen, USC Aiken graduates of 2006 and 1996 respectively, have pledged a $25,000 gift to the School of Business Administration to create an endowed scholarship supporting students intending to major in accounting or finance. The Jason K. Crane and Gerry L. Owen Endowed Business Scholarship will be established to provide an annual award of about $1,000 to a rising junior or senior who is a full-time, degree-seeking student at USCA.
The pair are co-founders and owners of Crane and Owen Financial Solutions in Aiken, and have actively served on various university boards.
“We are incredibly grateful and proud of the education we received at the University of South Carolina Aiken. That solid foundation has allowed us to achieve success in our careers and other endeavors,” Crane and Owen said in a media release. “Starting an endowed business scholarship at USCA to support others in accomplishing the type of success we have achieved is one way we can show our appreciation.”
USCA students interested in being considered for the scholarship must have a documented financial need and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and intend to major in accounting or finance. According to a media release, preference will be given to students who participate in community service or extracurricular activities at the college.
