HUNTINGTON — Four students, each of whom has demonstrated exceptional commitment to pursuing careers in healthcare, were awarded a total of $17,000 in scholarships from Valley Health, the organization announced in a news release. Three students were named recipients of the 2025 Valley Health Minority Health Care Scholarships. They are:
Additionally, Tate Adkins was named the recipient of the 2025 Cokey Muth Nursing Scholarship. Adkins, a freshman at the University of Charleston, was accepted to St. Mary’s Medical Center School of Nursing for fall 2025.
The Cokey Muth Registered Nurse Scholarship was created in the fall of 2023 to honor the life and legacy of late Valley Health Systems Inc. Board member and registered nurse Cokey Muth, the release states.
These scholarships are designed to support diverse individuals who hope to make a significant impact in the health care field, according to the release. The scholarship winners were honored and presented with their scholarships checks during a reception on June 25.
ā€œWe are incredibly proud of this year’s scholarship recipients,ā€ Dr. Mathew Weimer, president and CEO of Valley Health Systems, Inc., said in the release ā€œA career in health care can be demanding, but it is also deeply rewarding and full of purpose. These four students have demonstrated remarkable integrity, perseverance, and enthusiasm for their education and future in the field. We applaud their commitment and are confident that these scholarships will support them in reaching their goals and making a meaningful impact on the health of our communities.ā€
