Buffalo Bills quarterback and Central Valley native Josh Allen has partnered with Wonderful Pistachios to launch the Josh Allen Scholarship, which aims to support first-generation students from Firebaugh.
The scholarship, part of the Wonderful Community Scholarship program, will provide up to $12,000 over four years to eligible students, along with assistance in college applications and financial aid.
"This program is about more than a scholarship fund; it’s a way to open new doors for the next generation of leaders," Allen said.
Josh Allen was born and raised in Firebaugh and played quarterback for Firebaugh High School. He attended Reedley College, where he played quarterback for the Tigers before transferring to the University of Wyoming to play for the Cowboys.
The Buffalo Bills drafted him in the first round in 2018 as the 7th overall pick.
Andy Anzaldo, COO of corporate social responsibility at The Wonderful Company, emphasized the importance of investing in the community, stating, "With this new scholarship, we are investing in a community that many of our employees call home, just like Josh Allen."
This year, 40 seniors from Firebaugh High School were accepted into the program.
