Vermont Law and Graduate School partners with City Year to offer cheaper degrees – Burlington Free Press
City Year AmeriCorps members and alumni have a new resource to help pursue graduate education, thanks to a partnership with Vermont Law and Graduate School, according to a community announcement.
The collaboration is designed to support those who have served in schools and communities by offering waived application fees, 30% tuition scholarships and matched Segal Education Awards. The partnership is expected to help City Year alumni build on their service and put together careers through programs in law, public policy and social justice, according to the announcement.
“City Year members dedicate themselves to the betterment of schools and communities,” Dan Bromberg, graduate school dean at Vermont Law, said. “We’re honored to provide a next step in their journeys.”
City Year, a national nonprofit, places AmeriCorps members in under-resourced schools to support K–12 students. Vermont Law offers graduate degrees in areas such as restorative justice, environmental law and policy, energy regulation, animal protection and food and agriculture law.
“We’re excited to add Vermont Law and Graduate School to our University Partner portfolio,” said Alison Thurner, director of alumni career partnerships at City Year. “City Year believes that young people, regardless of background, should have access to the knowledge, skills and opportunities to thrive in career, college and life — and VLGS recognizes that the service experience of City Year alums can be a valuable asset to its community.”
