Five Valley High School students have received the NaphCare Charitable Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship will cover tuition, fees, books and other expenses for students pursuing 2-year associate degrees or approved training programs at technical, trade, or community colleges.
This year’s recipients were, Nevaeh Crane, Lily Smith, Mckinlee Garsee, James Jones and Samantha Do.
Students receive $5,000 for the school expenses. The recipients are eligible to receive a second year of funding, dependent on grades and full-time or part-time status.
Valley High School was the first school to receive the scholarship in 2011, and VHS students have been awarded a total of 262  scholarships, the most of any school.
“We are proud to support these students’ educational journey and excited to see the great things they will accomplish in the future,” said Deanna Newton, Executive Director of Educational Giving.
The program takes applications from Alabama, Mississippi and Kentucky.
According to a press release, NCF provides the scholarship, “to advance the safety and well-being of communities through research educational programs and scholarship opportunities.”
Neveah Crane, one of this year’s Valley recipients, explained the importance of the scholarship funding in the release.
“Eventually, I want to become a nurse practitioner, which requires a considerable amount of school. This scholarship will alleviate a great deal of financial stress and possible discouragement,” Crane stated. “It will help me obtain an education that will impact the lives of many. I want to give back to others through this scholarship.”
