The Javacya Arts Conservatory announces that Phillip Rumlin-Bond, an 18-year-old violinist from Gretna, has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to attend The Hartt School Conservatory of Music in Connecticut — one of the nation’s most respected institutions for classical music study.
A product of Gadsden County and a student of violinist Patrice Floyd at Javacya Arts Conservatory, Phillip’s achievement is a powerful testament to what can emerge from small communities when talent meets opportunity and support. He will now represent his hometown and the region on a national stage, furthering a legacy of excellence cultivated since his first lessons in third grade.
Though Phillip has secured a scholarship covering most of his annual tuition (valued between $50,000 and $60,000), he still needs to raise $3,500 per semester to bridge the final financial gap. Those who would like to support Phillip may donate at javacyaarts.com.
“We invite individuals, churches, civic organizations, and businesses across Gretna, Tallahassee, and beyond to support Phillip’s journey,” Floyd said. “The community’s contributions will help ensure Phillip is able to focus on his studies and reach his potential without financial worry.”
Phillip has distinguished himself for four years as Concertmaster of the Javacya Elite Chamber Orchestra, housed at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral. His artistry has been shaped through master classes with renowned musicians such as Amadi Azikiwe, Rachel Barton Pine, and Mariella Haubs. His summers have been filled with intensive study at esteemed programs, including Interlochen Arts Camp, New England Conservatory Preparatory Division, and the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music.
Currently, Phillip is studying at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in New Hampshire, representing both Javacya and the State of Florida. Alongside his young colleagues, he is receiving world-class chamber music training and preparing to perform two concerts over a two-week period.
The Apple Hill Center is internationally recognized for its innovative chamber music program, which draws students from around the globe to foster musical excellence, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
