Kennedy Warren and Sara Welshans (front center) were honored for their scholarship awards from Independence Bank on May 14.
Independence Bank in Providence honored its 2025 Webster County scholarship recipients on May 14 at the branch office.
Kennedy Warren is this year’s recipient of the John Thacker Scholarship. The award is reserved for a student seeking an education in law. It is also to honor John Thacker, an attorney for Independence Bank who passed away in 2024.
“His invaluable wisdom and guidance were instrumental in the establishment and success of our bank,” officials with the financial institution said in a release.
“Thank you very much, I can’t say it enough. I really do hope that I honor and represent him well while making you all proud,” said Warren.
Sara Welshans is a recipient of the Webster County community board scholarship. She has spent time during her high school career volunteering by preparing food bags at Outreach Center in Sebree, helping at Madisonville’s Breaking Bread, and by organizing clothing drives.
“I know some financial debt is going to be lifted off my shoulders, so I am excited,” said Sara.
The two young women were among 72 recipients of scholarships from the bank this year.
