Walk-ons being awarded scholarships in front of their teammates is a long-standing college football tradition.
Auburn was the latest team to showcase that in a video posted to X (formerly Twitter). The video showed walk-on wide receiver Cam’Ron King speak in front of the team, where he was asked about what it’s like to be a walk-on and how his teammates treat him.
As he was walking back to his seat in the team room, Hugh Freeze called him back to the front, telling him that he’s now on scholarship.
YOU'RE ON SCHOLARSHIP‼️
Earned, not given. Congratulations, Cam'Ron King! pic.twitter.com/CbQxLOzsF3
His teammates rushed toward him to celebrate after Freeze’s declaration, all hugging and cheering for the newest scholarship player on the Tigers’ roster. King, a native of Ocala, Florida, is going into his second year at Auburn after redshirting in 2024.
