Three talented students from WCG’s Pershore College have achieved a significant milestone in their horticultural careers by securing prestigious scholarships.
Emmeline Yourston and Nicole Harding have been awarded the Smart Garden Products Scholarship from the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation, while Sam Evans has earned the British Ornamentals Association (BOA) Scholarship. These scholarships play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of horticultural professionals by offering invaluable opportunities for growth, networking, and industry insight.
Nicole Harding, who works at Allensmore Nurseries, expressed her excitement about receiving the bursary, stating, “I am really pleased to be awarded this bursary, and I am excited to explore the opportunities this gives me.”
As part of their scholarship, Emmeline and Nicole have been invited to attend the Smart Garden Products Development Tour on July 8th and 9th. This exclusive event will provide them with unique, behind-the-scenes access to some of the most innovative and exciting horticultural businesses in the UK.
Emmeline Yourston, from The Bransford Webbs Plant Company, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “I am absolutely over the moon to have been awarded the Smart Garden Products scholarship! I feel honoured towards the Trustees of Colegrave Seabrook Foundation to have been selected. I am eager to attend the Smart Garden Products Development Tour later this year and to learn about innovative production developments in the horticultural industry. With this, the scholarship will greatly enhance my subject knowledge by enabling me to attend future industry conferences.”
Meanwhile, Sam Evans’ scholarship includes student membership of BOA, which will provide him with regular networking opportunities and valuable industry connections to support his future career.
Sam, who also works at The Bransford Webbs Plant Company, highlighted the impact of the scholarship on his career, saying, “I am thrilled and delighted to be selected to receive the British Ornamental Association Scholarship by the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation Trustees. The financial support means that I will be able to attend the 2025 International Plant Propagators Society European Conference, as well as receiving student membership of the British Ornamentals Association. This will greatly support my progression through the next stage of my career in horticulture. I would like to thank my tutor at Pershore College, Mark Diggines, and everyone at The Bransford Webbs Plant Company for all the support they have offered in my apprenticeship so far.”
All three students are currently completing their Crop Technician apprenticeship at Pershore College, part of WCG. Their success underscores the outstanding training and education they receive, as well as their dedication and passion for horticulture.
