The Wharton County Junior College Foundation is proud to announce they have awarded $72,000 in scholarships to students from its service area. Eighteen students were selected from Wharton, Boling, East Bernard, Needville, El Campo, Louise, Bay City, Tidehaven, Fulshear, and Randle High Schools and each will receive $4,000 toward their education at WCJC. The Foundation initiated this scholarship program in 2017, and has continued to expand these scholarships by opening them to all students within its service area.
“We are so pleased to be able to continue to expand these scholarships to every student we serve.” said Suzanne Armour, who serves as the President of the WCJC Foundation’s Board of Directors. “These are some amazing students who have a bright future ahead and we are thrilled to be able to help them in their academic journey.”
The 2024 scholarship recipients include:
• Boling High School – Aidan Christopher Meek, Bianca Sanchez, Ryleigh Bialas
• El Campo High School – Laura Reyna, Andrea Sanchez, Daniela R. Hernandez
• Louise High School – Pete-Dwayne Galvan
• Needville High School – Ivy Flores, Hannah Moeckel, Emily Delgadillo

The purpose of these scholarships is to provide assistance for students who need further support to pursue higher education. The WCJC Foundation, whose mission is to provide educational awareness and financial support to Wharton County Junior College, continues to expand its impact through its support of students and programs. This includes new community events, new scholarship opportunities, and increased community engagement through social media and scholarship awareness.

The Foundation’s Director, Jonathan Jeter, praised the scholarships. “This year we are pleased to support outstanding high school graduates in the communities we serve with the support of the Foundation’s Board and our generous donors,” Jeter said. “We look forward to watching what great things these students will do in this community and beyond.”
To qualify for the scholarships, applicants were required to have been a high school graduate within the Wharton County Junior College’s service area. In addition, they had to complete a scholarship application, including an essay. Priority was given to students who demonstrated how a scholarship would enable them to overcome financial constraints in order to attend Wharton County Junior College.
The WCJC Foundation Office is located on Wharton campus, located inside the J. M. Hodges Library. For more information on ways to give to the Foundation visit wcjcfoundation.org or contact Jonathan Jeter at jeterj@wcjc.edu or 979-532-6981.
