KENDALLVILLE — Northeastern Center has awarded the 2025 Jane George Scholarship to Leah Kathary, a recent graduate of West Noble High School.
The $750 scholarship is in memory of Jane George, a nurse case manager who worked at Northeastern Center for more than seven years before passing away from cancer in October 2002. The award is given annually to a student planning a future career in mental health.
In the fall, Kathary plans to attend Wayne State University and pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Ultimately, she hopes to become a therapist.
In her essay, Kathary wrote, “I want to do everything in my power to help people who are not capable of helping themselves. I want to show people that there are options for them and that they do have a future in this world.”
Northeastern Center, Inc. has been serving the people of DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble and Steuben counties for more than 45 years. The agency’s mission is to help individuals achieve emotional and mental wholeness through accessible, affordable and quality behavioral health services. For more information, visit nec.org.
