On May 27, Western Henrico Rotary Club recognized this year’s recipients of the Becky Briggs Memorial Scholarship. The annual scholarships are awarded in memory of Rebecca Briggs, a 17-year-old who died in a 1990 traffic accident, and honor students who have faced special challenges or overcome significant difficulties to excel in their school careers.
This year’s five recipients were chosen from among 57 applicants for the scholarship, and include [left to right] Tobias Suarez-Vasquez (Freeman H.S. graduate, attending UVA), Kerbie Latham (Hermitage H.S.; attending UVA); Gabriella Clemens (Glen Allen H.S.; Washington & Lee University), Taylor Clingenpeel (Tucker H.S.; UVA), and Brook Cunningham (Tucker H.S.; James Madison University).
