Southern Regional Technical College recently announced that Jon Thomas (JT) Wheeler of Cairo has been selected as the recipient of the Southwest Georgia Farm Credit scholarship for the Land, Forest, Wildlife Management Technology Program.Â
This $1,000 scholarship is designed to help students cover the cost of tuition and fees as they pursue careers in conservation and natural resource management.
The scholarship, established through the generous support of Southwest Georgia Farm Credit, demonstrates the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting rural communities and the agricultural industry.
“We are delighted to recognize JT Wheeler’s dedication to the field of conservation,” said Dr. Jeremy Green, program chair for Land, Forest, Wildlife Management at SRTC. “This scholarship not only provides financial support but also represents the strong partnership between our program and Southwest Georgia Farm Credit in developing the next generation of conservation professionals.”
SRTC’s Land, Forest, Wildlife Management program is a comprehensive, hands-on program that prepares students for careers in forestry, wildlife management, and conservation. The program is offered at both SRTC-Tifton and SRTC-Thomasville, with both locations featuring traditional classrooms alongside extensive forested outdoor classroom spaces. Students in the program gain valuable skills in prescribed fire, silviculture, GPS/GIS technology, wildlife management, and numerous other competencies essential to the conservation field.
Southwest Georgia Farm Credit has been serving rural America for more than 100 years and provides scholarship opportunities to deserving students throughout their association territory in Southwest Georgia, covering Baker, Calhoun, Chattahoochee, Clay, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Marion, Miller, Mitchell, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Seminole, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, Thomas, and Webster counties.
“The SRTC Foundation is thrilled to continue offering the Southwest Georgia Farm Credit Scholarship to our Land, Forest, Wildlife Management students,” said Christina Reneau, SRTC’s executive director of institutional advancement. “This scholarship helps our students cover tuition, fees, and other program-related expenses while enrolled at SRTC, allowing them to focus on their studies and hands-on learning experiences.”
