WHEELING, W.Va. — Two Wheeling Park High School seniors have been named semi-finalists in the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program.
The recognition is primarily based on their PSAT scores, but the students will now begin the process of applying and showcasing their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and GPA to advance further in the competition.
"I think it's a huge honor considering the amount of work I've had to put in these three years to get very hard classes, and all the extracurriculars I've done," Nathan Tiska said. "It has definitely trained me a lot to do well on the PSAT and to move forward to the next steps of getting the merit scholarship."
"Of course, it's an honor, it's taken years of hard work, practicing for the PSAT freshman, sophomore then taking it junior year to get the score I did so it's an honor and I'm very grateful for it," Christopher Alkhouri said.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is a highly competitive academic scholarship competition that recognizes and rewards high school students for their exceptional academic performance.
