Aurora senior Cameron Whitener, center,  poses alongside the other winners of the Logan Middleton scholarship at the Blue and Gold Tournament.
Aurora senior Cameron Whitener was honored at this year’s Blue and Gold tournament with the $2,000 Logan Middleton Memorial Scholarship. Whitener was selected from a pool of 21 applicants based on their academic achievements and an essay on what sportsmanship meant to them. This was the 12th year the award has been given out after the namesake Logan Middleton tragically passed in a car wreck in 2012. The Nixa senior had been voted MVP of the Blue and Gold Tournament.
Whitener said in the hours following his selection via Facebook “I am truly grateful and deeply honored to be selected as one of the winners of the Logan Middleton sponsorship. Though I did not have the privilege of knowing Logan personally, his legacy is undeniable.” He continued, “In my paper, I wrote My parents have consistently said that God doesn’t just give us who we want but who we need. Sometimes that’s to teach us a lesson, and sometimes it’s to provide a blessing. I hope my legacy mirrors the qualities Logan embodied.”
Whitener is undecided on where he will attend college, but he plans on majoring in medicine with a secondary focus in business.
