PARKERSBURG — WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center has announced its 2025 scholarship opportunities made available for Mid-Ohio Valley college students pursuing careers in nursing and other health care related fields.
The annual scholarships are funded through the Camden Clark Foundation and Hospital Auxiliary and will total up to $15,000.
The Camden Clark Foundation on behalf of the Camden Clark Nursing Alumnae will award two $2,500 scholarships in memory of Ella Bloomheart, former director of nursing, and Barbara Fonte, a grateful patient, to college students who have completed their first year at an accredited school of nursing or currently employed RNs furthering their education.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to provide financial assistance annually for local nursing students and current Camden Clark nurses pursuing further education,” Kim Couch, WVU Medicine Camden Clark Foundation executive director, said. “This scholarship funding has been made available each year by the Camden Clark Nursing Alumnae, which has helped to shape and nurture nursing students throughout their academic journeys. We are deeply grateful for their continued generosity and support of the rising nurses within our communities.”
Criteria for the Nursing Alumnae Scholarship is:

* Provide written documentation of acceptance to a Registered Nurse program accredited by the National League of Nursing (NLN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
* Live in the area served by WVU Medicine Camden Clark, which includes 11 counties in West Virginia and Ohio.
* Have completed one year of college at an accredited school as a nursing student or be in the final weeks of their first year of college carrying at least 12 credit hours or be a currently employed RN furthering their education.
All scholarship funds awarded must be used within the next academic year. The application deadline is April 10 with the scholarships to be awarded May 6 at the Camden Clark Nursing Alumnae Luncheon.

The Camden Clark Auxiliary will award up to four separate $2,500 Leo D. Carsner Memorial Scholarships based on meeting scholarship criteria. Area college students obtaining a degree in a health care-related field are eligible for the scholarship presented in memory of Leo D. Carsner, CEO and president of Camden Clark Memorial Hospital from 1963-1989.
“Financial assistance removes barriers for many college students, and we recognize the critical need to offer this support for the next generation of healthcare professionals,” Margie Reed, WVU Medicine Camden Clark volunteer and auxiliary manager, said. “For more than 30 years, the Camden Clark Auxiliary has provided annual scholarship awards to Mid-Ohio Valley students pursuing healthcare related degrees, and we’re honored to continue this tradition.”
Those applying for the Leo D. Carsner Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
* Live in the area served by WVU Medicine Camden Clark, which includes 11 counties in West Virginia and Ohio.
* Have completed one year of college at an accredited school or be in the final weeks of their first year of college carrying at least 12 credit hours.
* Applicants must be college students obtaining a degree in a health care related field.
Applicants will be judged on their scholastic ability, leadership attributes, potential contribution to the healthcare field and financial need. The application deadline is April 10, with the scholarships to be presented at the Camden Clark Volunteer Luncheon on April 23. All funds awarded will be paid directly to the college or university of the chosen recipients.
Scholarship funding is made available each year through various Camden Clark Auxiliary projects.
