PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Wednesday afternoon 22 students were awarded scholarships to attend WVU-P for a applied sciences degree.
This was made possible through the partnership of Constellium and WVU-P and their Skilled Trade Scholarship Program.
At the signing ceremony Wednesday Afternoon many people spoke including Senator Joe Manchin, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, WVU-P President Torie Jackson and more.
This is the fifth year that the program has existed and it has grown every year since the inception with this class being their largest yet. While being their largest class they also saw their first girl enter the program, Mackynzie Fields.
“People are going to look up to me and that means a lot and it means I have accomplished so big I can’t even comprehend it right now but I’m really excited to see where it goes and how it goes,” said Fields.
The students will start the two-year program in August and after graduation they have a guaranteed job at Constellium for at least three years.
