The seventh annual suicide prevention golf tournament hosted by Wyoming Behavioral Institute in September will raise funds for mental health professional scholarships. This year’s scholarship recipient is a student focused on serving veterans, as she pursues her degree at Casper College with plans to work in healthcare.
Michaela Gunn says her career interest is a population in our community she has personal experience with, and feels is underserved. “Coming from a family that has had more generations than I can count serve our great nation in the armed forces including my father, grandfathers, nine uncles, and a few cousins, I have always had a deep respect for both our active armed forces and veteran community,” Gunn said. “Though I do not have the calling to enlist, I do wish to support our brave men and women who I have always thought to be underrepresented and underappreciated.”

The endowed Wyoming Behavioral Institute Mental Health Professionals Scholarship Fund provides students with $1,000 scholarships divided between the fall and spring semesters. Scholarship applicants must be students taking at least six credit hours with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, and who are Wyoming residents. Preference is given to Natrona County residents. Michaela was on the Spring 2025 President’s Honor Roll at Casper College, earning a GPA of 3.5 or better.
The definition of a mental health professional for this scholarship includes students pursuing degrees in nursing and other medical fields, including occupational therapy, addictions, social work, psychology, and education. Funds for the scholarships are raised exclusively through sponsorship and participation in the Annual WBI Mental Health Professional Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament to be held this year on Saturday, September 6 at Three Crowns Golf Club with an 8 a.m. shotgun.
A few sponsorship opportunities and teams are still available for individuals and organizations that would like to support this year’s tournament. Wyoming Behavioral Institute, the Wyoming Hospital Association, Oil City News, Wyoming Automotive, Banner Health, Boomtown Parking Lot Maintenance, Mountain West Valuations and Durbin Street Golf were first to sign up to make the event possible. Please join us in our effort to make this golf tournament a significant contributor to mental wellness in Natrona County.
