The Wyoming Valley Women’s Club awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Joanna Elick at the Hanover Area Senior Academic Awards Ceremony on May 30.
Joanna is the daughter of Ann Elick. She will be attending Wilkes University in the fall. She plans on majoring in criminology. Joanna chose Wilkes University to join the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program and pursue her goal of becoming an officer of Special Investigations in the Air Force. She is looking forward to serving her country after completing her studies and training.
Joanne lists many impressive accomplishments, including National Honor Society for four years, third place for AMVETS Freedom Essay, president of the Unified Club, high honors for grades 9 through 12, Student of the Month for October 2024 and 2025; participating in field hockey for five years and serving as captain in the eleventh grade and Unified Track and Field. She was also a member of the LEO Club, Student Council, Chorus, Hawks Unified Club, Drama Club and Creative Crafts Club. Joanna also participated in several community activities.
The Wyoming Valley Women’s Club provides a $1,000 scholarship each year to a graduating senior who is college-bound. A fundraiser fashion show will be held in October. The fashion show is the club’s only fundraiser and provides funding for each year’s scholarship.
The Wyoming Valley Women’s Club is open to all women living in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
