Yousriya Loza-Sawiris Scholarship for Egyptian Students at U. of Minnesota, USA – Al-Fanar Media

The Yousriya Loza-Sawiris Scholarship supports Egyptian students seeking a Master’s Degree in Development Practice (MDP) from the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, in the United States. Scholarship candidates must be Egyptian nationals residing in Egypt, and demonstrate strong academic, professional, and interpersonal skills.
The scholarship covers full tuition fees in addition to living expenses for the first year of the two-year programme, and partial costs for the second year. Applicants must demonstrate the ability finance their own studies.
The Master of Development Practice equips students with the skills to tackle global sustainable development challenges such as poverty, health, climate change, and human rights. The degree requirements include earning 50 credits during two years of full-time study, plus completing a 10-week summer field experience.
To apply for the degree, applicants must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution, meet the programme’s English proficiency requirements, and have at least two years’ work experience in development.
While no specific experience or academic track is required, students with a strong liberal arts education background and sound quantitative and analytical skills will be best prepared for academic success at the Humphrey School. Prior studies in maths, statistics, and economics are recommended.
Candidates must also commit to working in Egypt’s development sector for two years after graduation.
The scholarship is offered by Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, which provides and creates study and job opportunities abroad, along with training programmes in the economic fields.
