LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Yum! Brands is launching a $1 million scholarship program for University of Louisville students.
According to our partners at Louisville Business First, The Yum! Scholars program offers financial support, mentorship and hands-on experience in the world of franchising. The scholarships are open to students in Kentucky or from states covered by the university’s tuition reciprocity agreements. Scholars will get a renewable scholarship of $1,000 a semester for up to four years.
The company is funding the scholarships through an endowment to the Yum! Center for Global Franchise Excellence at the University of Louisville.
The school offers graduate and undergraduate certificates in franchise management along with a professional certificate.
“This generation is very focused on owning their own company, but not everybody has the best idea that’s going to break through,” Kathleen Gosser, an assistant professor of franchise management, told Business First. “Why not get on with a brand that has proven its success and move forward?”
Gosser said there will be 850,000 franchise establishment in the U.S. by the end of the year, which account for 9 million jobs and about $936 billion in economic output.
Louisville-based Yum! Brands owns KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and The Habit Burger & Grill. The system operates nearly 61,000 restaurants in more than 155 countries and territories.
