KILAUEA — The Zonta Club of Hanalei announced the distribution of $37,000 in scholarships to 18 students from Kaua‘i’s public schools and Island School.
KILAUEA — The Zonta Club of Hanalei announced the distribution of $37,000 in scholarships to 18 students from Kaua‘i’s public schools and Island School.
Nine of the 18 scholarship recipients were treated to an afternoon of elegance and fine treats at the home of Patti Graves, a member of the Zonta Club of Hanalei (ZCOH), who serves on the club’s Scholarship Committee and also contributes to the scholarship fund.
The Zonta Club of Hanalei distributes its scholarships in continuing a tradition of honoring students pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
This year’s list of recipients include:
Marissa Matsushige, of Worchester Poly Institute, receiving the Hunt Family Foundation award toward her career goal of becoming a physician.
Zooey Johnson, of University of Portland, receiving the Kirsten L. Salmon award toward her career goal in nursing.
Hope Newton, of the University of Texas at Austin, earning the Betty Bell Memorial award toward her career goal in aerospace engineering.
Nicole Perpose, of Waimea High School, earning the Diana Rachel Memorial award toward her career goal in nursing.
Sophia Badua, of Kaua‘i High School, earning the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in nursing.
Keala Banasihan, of Waimea High School, earning the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in culinary arts.
Olivia Blackmer, of Waimea High School, earning the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in environmental science.
Kirra Carvalho, of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, receiving the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in optometry.
Kiele Casillas, of the Grand Canyon University, receiving the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in physical therapy.
Mahina Dameron, of Island School, receiving the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in psychology.
Jessica Drent, of Mount Holyoke College, earning the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal of becoming a physician;
Isabel Fontana of Kaua‘i High School receiving the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal of becoming an eco-biologist;.
Makayla Karimi, of Kaua‘i High School, earning the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in nursing.
McKenna Kerry of Island School earning the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in Equine Science.
Kaori Koerte, of Kaua‘i High School, earning the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in forensic science.
Katherine Lambden, of Kapa‘a High School, receiving the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal in architecture.
Jeanine Longboy, of Kaua‘i High School, receiving the ZCOH Foundation award toward her career goal of becoming a physician.
