The Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami (Sami Gomo III), has donated N100 million to the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, Kebbi State, to fund academic research and provide scholarships for indigent students.
The amount, a personal gift from his business partners, Green Way Agrotech, was redirected by the monarch to support the university’s efforts in promoting higher education and human capital development in the region.
A statement by the spokesman of the Emirate Council and Sadaukin Zuru, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, said the Emir instructed that the funds be used specifically to support research initiatives and assist bright but financially disadvantaged students whose parents cannot afford tertiary education.
“The donation is a demonstration of His Royal Highness’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of education and the socio-economic upliftment of the people of Zuru Emirate,” the statement said.
The Emir described the gesture as an expression of gratitude to Allah for His blessings and a contribution to the development agenda of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris.
He said: “This donation is aimed at complementing the Governor’s efforts in improving educational standards in the state. It is also a way of giving back to society and investing in our collective future.”
The traditional ruler stressed the transformative power of education and pledged continued support for programmes that promote learning, innovation, and youth empowerment.
The development has been widely applauded across the state, with many describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
Observers noted that the intervention underscores the growing role of traditional institutions in driving development at the grassroots, particularly in critical sectors such as education.
