MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – The MLK Gala Committee held their 22nd annual MLK Gala this evening at the MSU Riley Center.
Tickets were available online or at the door, charging 50 dollars per person or 500 for a table.
The gala serves as a fundraiser, with all funds earned going to scholarships to help highs school graduates heading to college.
Rhonda Hare with the Martin Luther King Gala Committee said the gala is more than just the scholarships, it’s about the students the scholarships go on to help.
“Each year we have individuals that come back and sponsor this every year because we like to be able to support the community, support the children, and support the individuals that want to go to college,” said Hare. “Every year we pick students and sometimes we give away 7 scholarships, sometimes we give away 8, it all depends on how much we collect at the end of the gala.”
Winners of this year’s scholarship will be announced in May.
