Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Beta Zeta Omega Chapter®, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, recently awarded a total of $10,000 in scholarships to five academically talented local high school graduates who are attending college this fall.
Hubbard
Scholarship selection criteria is based on scholastic achievement, character, leadership ability, finer womanhood, and community activities. Financial need is also the basis of two of the scholarships this academic year. Funding for the scholarships comes from the chapter’s annual Calendar Doll Benefit Program.
Dawson
Kristan Hubbard, a graduate of High School for Health Professions, was awarded the Academic Achievement Scholarship I. She will attend Claflin University where she plans to major in biology. She aspires to become a pharmacist. Kristan is the daughter of Stanley Hubbard.
King
Darian Dawson, a graduate of High School for Health Professions, was awarded the Academic Achievement Scholarship II. She will attend Claflin University where she plans to major in biology and minor in chemistry. She aspires to become an anesthesiologist and one day open a hospital. Darian is the daughter of Dyrek and Pamela Dawson.
Boneparte
Armani King, a graduate of High School for Health Professions, was awarded the STEAM Scholarship. She will attend Claflin University, where she plans to major in biology. She aspires to a career in ultrasound technology. Armani is the daughter of Gregory and Cynthia King.
Jackson
Cha’Myri Boneparte, a graduate of Bethune -Bowman Middle High School, was awarded the Bethune-Bowman Adopt -A-School Scholarship. She will attend Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, where she plans to major in nursing. She aspires to become a traveling nurse. Cha’Myri is the daughter of Diane Morgan.

Mya Jackson, a graduate of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, was awarded the Sisterhood Scholarship. She will attend South Carolina State University, where she plans to major in biology. She aspires to a career in forensics. Mya is the daughter of Malik and Diane Jackson.
Latosha C. Legree serves as the president of Beta Zeta Omega, and Gwendolyn Barnes-Brown serves as the High School Scholarships Committee chairperson.
