The Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital Foundation (SYVCHF) is taking applications for the 2025 healthcare scholarships now through Friday, March 7.
To help offset the rising costs of higher education, SYVCHF annually awards scholarships to valley residents, including high school-graduating seniors and continuing college students, who are pursuing careers in a health or medical-related field.
In 2024, SYVCHF awarded a total of $62,000 in scholarships to 16 deserving students.
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Reside in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Plan to enter a health or medical-related field.
Provide a letter of acceptance to an accredited college or university.
Submit a one-page, typed essay outlining academic and professional goals, including intended future residence and workplace after graduation.
Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (see application form for complete details).
Previous scholarship recipients are eligible and encouraged to reapply. Applications received after March 7 will not be considered. Scholarship winners will be notified in April.
The scholarship application form and complete instructions can be found at cottagehealth.org/syvchf.

Thanks to community donations, named scholarships include the Ann Bertero Scholarship Fund, Ken and Lloyd Mills Family Scholarship Fund, Auxiliary Honorary Scholarship Fund, Nagler Family Scholarship Fund. Three others were added in 2024 — the Gainey Foundation Scholarship Fund, Lorraine Brem Scholarship Fund, and Shepherd Family Scholarship Fund.
The three new scholarship funds funds provide additional support for Santa Ynez Valley residents who are enrolled in or have completed two or more years of healthcare education at an accredited college or university, SYVCHF said.
Community support plays a key role in advancing a strong local healthcare workforce, SYVCHF noted. Contributions from residents, organizations, and grateful patients help sustain the scholarship programs.
