FISHERSVILLE, Va. (WHSV) – The 2024-25 school year is a little over halfway through. For high school seniors, the next step is quickly approaching. To help finance their futures, the Greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce has opened applications for its annual Chamber Foundation Scholarship program.
The scholarship is open to any public, private or homeschooled student attending a trade, two-year or four-year school after graduation. Between 20 and 25 students in Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro will win $1,000 each.
Courtney Thompson, president of the chamber, said that if students are hesitant, they should apply anyway. With only around 50-75 applicants a year, she said the chances of being selected as a recipient could be higher than you think.
“It’s really inspiring to see all the things the students are [doing], not just excelling in school. They’re also doing a lot of really great things outside of school with volunteering. A lot of them work. It’s amazing,” Thompson said. “We don’t really base it completely on grades. We look at the GPA, but it’s kind of a more minor point for us. We really look at that community service.”
Over the last 13 years, the foundation has awarded around $250,000 in scholarships. Thompson said it’s something the chamber looks forward to each year.
Applications are open until Monday, April 3. More information on the scholarship and the application process can be found here, on the chamber’s website.
