University Theatre at Kearney presented the quirky, not-so-romantic comedy “boom” on March 5-9 at the Studio Theatre on the UNK campus.
Several area students were part of the cast and crew when the University of Nebraska at Kearney theater department presented “boom” on March 5-9. The cast included Ava Lindstrom of Kearney who played “Jo,” Crew members included Kim Friesen of Aurora, properties manager; Bri Linden of Cairo, assistant stage manager; Logan Vraspir of Hastings, properties manager; and Aspen “AJ” Girard of Kearney, costume designer.
Central Nebraska students were among those getting degrees following the summer and fall semesters at South Dakota State University in Brookings. Kalli Naber of Albion graduated with a Bachelor of Science from SDSU’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences. Calvin Carter of Grand Island graduated with a Bachelor of Science from SDSU’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.

Concordia University, Nebraska has awarded the university’s President’s Scholarship to 25 students for the 2024-2025 school year. The scholarship acknowledges freshmen with excellent academic performance, notable extracurricular involvement and high test score achievements. Among the recipients are Isaiah Gaunt of Kearney and Thomas Thomas of Hastings.
The Hastings College chapter of Alpha Chi, the all-discipline collegiate academic honor society, inducted eight students recently. Among the inductees are two Hastings students, Abby Fielder, a junior majoring in physics, and Andrew Heckman, a junior majoring in accounting and finance. The purpose of Alpha Chi is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve such distinction. Students from all academic disciplines in the top 10% of their class are invited to join.
Linnea Howie and Miranda Vizoso-Marino, both of Hastings, have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. The list comprises students who have earned a 3.7 grade point average (based on a scale in which 4.0 = A) or higher for the semester.
