The Bradford Area High School Alumni Association has awarded its four annual $1,000 scholarships to 2024 BAHS graduates Elijah Canfield, Azlyn Compton, Carly Evers and Lillian Papinchak.
The four were honored by the association at a luncheon held June 6 at the Bradford Club.
Canfield plans to attend Alfred State College working toward an associate degree in electrical construction and maintenance. He plans to serve an apprenticeship with an IBEW local in order to complement his degree with status as a journeyman electrician. He was an honor roll student throughout high school and was awarded PA Advanced Skills certificate for job ready skills with OSHA rating in construction. He currently works at Napoli’s Pizza and the YMCA Child Care Center.
Compton will attend Slippery Rock University to obtain a degree in business management with a long-term goal of becoming an entrepreneur. She was an honor roll student throughout school and was honored by Zonta Club with its Amelia Earhart Award. She currently works with the BHS Co-op Program.
Evers will enroll at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, majoring in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. Her goal is to help reduce the amount of crime in her community and help people better their lives through counseling. She was on the distinguished honor roll throughout high school and is a member of National Honor Society. She has taken college and AP courses and completed Intro to Criminal Justice on the UPB campus. She served as senior class president, was a United Way Ambassador and Special Olympics volunteer and headed up a committee for Kids and Cancer. She was also a four-year member of the swim team. She currently works at the Model T Inn and as a lifeguard at Callahan Park.
Papinchak will enter Edinboro University this fall pursuing a degree in graphic design with a minor in photography. Her long-term goal is to have her own photography business serving clients in both the U.S. and Europe. She was on the distinguished honor roll throughout high school, carrying both college and AP courses. In addition, she has been an active member of National Honor Society, Key Club, BHS Marching Band and Girl Scouts.
The Alumni Association awards scholarships each year. They hold monthly meetings throughout the year and an annual banquet for members and guests each fall. Membership is open to any person who graduated from, attended or was employed by Bradford Area High School, regardless of year. Nominal dues, as well as donations from members support the awards program and have funded 61 scholarships to date.
