RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – KOTA Territory TV is helping local students go to college by contributing to the Jamie Zepp Memorial Scholarship.
Today KOTA Territory News presented a check for $1,500 to the scholarship. Every year, KOTA Territory TV donates money to two organizations from its sponsorship of the Black Hills Regional Job Fair.
Many viewers of KOTA Territory News and Black Hills Fox remember Jamie as the sports director. He died suddenly five years ago at the young age of 45 and his longtime friend, our own Alicia Garcia, founded the scholarship to honor Jamie and his lifelong effort to help others.
So far, three scholarships of $4,000 have been awarded to Central High School seniors who want to continue their education and who demonstrate the qualities Jamie lived every day of his life.
“This was a great way to honor his memory and to continue the positive force that he always was in our community, to have people remember him,” Alicia said. “But also, to use this as a way for people to move forward and do something with his memory.”
To apply for this scholarship or to donate, you can go to the Black Hills Area Community Foundation website or the Jamie Zepp website.
