FALL RIVER — High school and college students who live in or attend school in Fall River can apply for scholarships from the Fall River Scholarship Foundation, which has over $50,000 available to help pay for college education.
Since the Foundation was established in 1995, it has awarded over $900,000 in scholarships to local students.
To apply for funding from the Fall River Scholarship Foundation, students at B.M.C. Durfee and Diman Regional Vocational Technical high schools can find applications from their guidance departments, or download an application directly from the foundation’s website, www.fallriverscholarship.com.
Completed applications must be received by April 1.

James Rogers, president of the Fall River Scholarship Foundation, has appointed Matthew Kuss as chairperson of the awards committee. He will be assisted by Philip Silvia, Thomas Khoury, Gerry Lord, Caroline Moran, Matthew Moran, Andrew Nasser and John Saulino.
Last year, Anthony Cordeiro was recognized as the foundation’s Person of the Year for his continuing work on education projects.

Previous speakers have included state Sen. Michael Rodrigues, Marc Megna, former Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis; Lynne Sullivan, former editor of The Herald News; Channel 5 reporter Rhondella Richardson; Kim Moniz, vice president of the Fall River Chamber of Commerce; Philip Silvia, history professor at Bridgewater State University; former U.S. representative Barney Frank; Fall River School Committee member Kevin Aguiar; Bob Ryan, Boston Globe sports writer; former mayor Edward Lambert; Dean Donald Howard from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth; the late Tom Ellis, New England Cable News anchor; Steve Burton, Channel 4 sports announcer; and the late Providence mayor Vincent “Buddy” Cianci.
To create a $1,000 scholarship, as a memorial or honorary tribute, contact Rogers at jimanddee@comcast.net. Donors may present their scholarship to the recipient at the awards ceremony in June.
