After his cardiac arrest on the Bengal’s field in 2023, Damar Hamlin has a special place in his heart for his University of Cincinnati Medical Center care team. To honor them, he invests back into the Greater Cincinnati community with scholarships in their names.
The application process is now open for Damar Hamlin’s Cincinnati Heroes Scholarship, aimed at supporting underserved high school and college-bound students.
The scholarship program, part of Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation, awards $1,000 scholarships to 10 students each year, with the charity pledging a total of $10,000 in funding annually over a three-year period.
The application process opened on Saturday and scholarship recipients will be announced later this year, according to a news release.
The program was created in honor of the 10 medical personnel who helped save the Buffalo Bills safety’s life. Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field in 2023 while playing the Bengals at Paycor Stadium.
“I’m excited to launch the second year of my scholarship program in Cincinnati,” Hamlin said in the release. “I look forward to following the journey of the first round of kids that won last year and learning more about the next set of youth that are pursuing their dreams.”
Scholarships go to students who hope to attend Greater Cincinnati private high schools, trade schools or universities. The program was recently expanded to include youth in Buffalo as well.
