The deadline for North Allegheny students to apply for scholarships through the North Allegheny Foundation is March 21.
The North Allegheny Foundation has increased the award for each of its five scholarships to $2,000, which previously was $1,000, according to Tiffany Thirkell, chairperson of the North Allegheny Foundation Scholarship Committee.
Scholarship applications can be found on the North Allegheny website at northallegheny.org/scholarships.
The North Allegheny Foundation offers the following five scholarships: Excellence in Academics, Excellence in Arts, Excellence in Leadership, Excellence in Service and Extra Effort.
“The vision of the North Allegheny Foundation is to promote learning experiences for NA students. This includes transitioning to post-secondary education. These scholarships give students the opportunity to pursue their passions that were cultivated during their time at North Allegheny,” said Bill Mascari, North Allegheny Foundation trustee. “Furthermore, these scholarships reflect the pillars of the NA Foundation.”
The foundation also works with multiple families to distribute scholarships in memory of their loved ones, ranging from $500 to $5,000. Nine scholarships are listed on the foundation page.
Scholarship recipients will be announced in May and recognized at a school board meeting on May 7, according to Thirkell.
Overall, the foundation will be giving away $23,000 in scholarships this year between the NA Foundation-funded scholarships and several privately funded scholarships, Thirkell said.
The North Allegheny Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization. It has distributed more than $750,000 in grants to North Allegheny schools and staff members and thousands more in scholarships to outstanding graduating seniors since its inception in 1989, according to its website.
