The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will be awarding four $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors this year.

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will be awarding four $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors this year.
The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award four $1,500 scholarships this year. All graduating seniors living in the Ellwood City Area and Riverside school districts are eligible.
Applications and requirements may be obtained from high school counselors or from the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. The society’s History Center at 310 5th St. is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Scholarship competitors may make appointments to use the History Center’s research facilities by calling (724) 752-2021.
There will be two $1,500 Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarships awarded and two $1,500 Marlene Painter awards given.

Those applying for the Barensfeld scholarships must write an essay on “How Did Major Events in History Affect Our Local Community?” Applicants for the Painter scholarships must plan to enroll in an education curriculum and present an essay on “Why I Want to be a Teacher.”
The historical society has issued $94,000 in scholarships in the past.
Applications and essays must be returned to the society before noon April 7.
