JUNO BEACH, FLORIDA—Florida’s growing economy continues to need more skilled employees to meet workforce demands. Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is offering two prestigious scholarships to help students achieve their educational and career aspirations.
FPL’s FIRST Robotics Scholarship will award one high school senior a $20,000 scholarship, while the NextEra Energy Scholarship for Students in SECME (Science, Engineering, Communication, Mathematics and Enrichment). The scholarship will grant 10 high school seniors $20,000 each. In total, up to 11 graduating high school seniors will have the chance to receive scholarship funding.
“We believe STEM programs are vital for igniting student interest in innovative fields and preparing them for lucrative careers in the future,” said Kate Cotner, FPL director of community engagement. “We’re demonstrating our Power to Educate and invest in the future of our communities, and we’re excited to support these students in their STEM career journeys.”
FPL’s FIRST Robotics Scholarship is open to all public and private high school students within FPL’s service area who have participated in a FIRST Tech Challenge or FIRST Robotics Competition for two or more years.
The NextEra Energy Scholarship for Students in SECME provides $5,000 annually, renewable for up to three years or until the recipient earns a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.
To qualify, applicants must plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited two- or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming 2025-26 academic year and have at least one year of experience in a SECME program.<
“You all are life changers,” said Rebeca Jean, one of the 2024 recipients of the NextEra Energy Scholarship for Students in SECME. “I believe everything you all have done has truly made a difference and I’m glad to be one of the differences that you make.”
The application period for both scholarships is open from Feb. 17 to April 14, 2025. Interested students can visit FPL.com/education and click on “scholarships and funding” for detailed information and application links.
