Firelands Electric Cooperative is accepting scholarship applications, including for a new award for prior graduates, until Jan.17.
Applicants must reside in a home receiving electric power from the cooperative. Complete guidelines and applications are available under the Community tab at firelandsec.com.
The cooperative will award a total of $9,750 in college scholarships to high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, according to a news release. Ten students will receive scholarships ranging from $750 to $1,800. Two students will be awarded $500 honorable mention scholarships and two will receive $500 Judges’ Choice scholarships.
The first-place winner can compete for up to $4,600 in additional scholarships at a statewide contest in Columbus on April 16.
Firelands Electric also will offer a $1,000 career scholarship to one high school senior with a minimum GPA of 2.5, as well as a $1,000 scholarship for a member who graduated before June 2023. The scholarships are intended for vocational training programs.
Finalists will be invited for interviews Feb. 17.
