Applications are open for the Environmental Stewardship Pillar of Prosperity Scholarships.
The scholarships aim to support educational and career goals in 32 counties of Appalachian Ohio. Residents in seven additional counties served by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD), including Ashland, Richland and Wayne counties, also can apply, according to a press release from the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO).
The scholarships are designed for people pursuing degrees or continuing education in fields such as ecology, forestry and wildlife ecology. They also support vocational training in areas that promote green energy technology and sustainable agriculture.
Applicants at any stage of their education are eligible, with preference given to those intending to live and work in Appalachian Ohio.

Funding for the scholarships comes from MWCD and various donors, including Nicolozakes Trucking & Construction, Ohio CAT, American Electric Power and its foundations. FAO has established over 280 scholarship funds since 2004, awarding more than 4,900 scholarships to support education in the region.
